Given the same pixel count, 1”-format sensors (e.g. IMX383 by Sony) will have lower noises and better low-light performance than smaller format size sensors.

If an application requires high performance and size is not a primary driver, then the 1″ class of sensors are ideal candidates. They offer high resolutions and excellent performance. These sensors’ size allows lenses that are still well within the commonly-accepted size range of traditional C/CS format be it actually C/CS mount or board-mount.

Such systems are ideally suited to larger drones, OHV applications, Robotics, CV/Machine vision, as well as Enterprise VR/AV and Teleconferencing applications.

The approximate field of views shown below are based on a 1" format sensor with an active area of 12.8mmx9.6mm. An online wizard is available for calculating field of views for different sensor dimensions.
